| Sensex hits all-time high after new rules
NEW DELHI/MUMBAI: An ease in worries over a cap on foreign investment in Indian stocks and strong buying by funds yesterday led to Indias two bourses, the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the Nifty to climb new peaks. The premier 30-stock Sensex market of the BSE ended trading at 19,243 points, its all-time high, gaining 2.5% or 472 points with buying by domestic and foreign funds in capital goods, metals and banking stocks leading the rally. The Sensex crossed the 19,000-point mark on October 15 after just four trading sessions. It had taken only 8 days to reach 18,000 points, on October 9, from the 17,000 point mark. The markets will be looking at two events the announcement of domestic credit policy on October 30 and the federal Reserve Bank of Indias decision about credit ratio next month.
